Welcome to
Richard Watt Counselling

I believe that lasting emotional wellbeing is built through more than conversation alone. While psychotherapy provides a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences, meaningful progress is often strengthened by the choices we make beyond the therapy space.

My approach recognises the close connection between mind and body. Developing healthy routines, staying physically active, setting achievable goals, and celebrating personal progress can all play an important role in improving mental wellbeing. Therapy is about understanding where you are today, discovering where you want to be, and working together to help you move forward with confidence.

I'm committed to helping you build resilience, strengthen your sense of self, and develop the tools needed to lead a healthier, more balanced, and fulfilling life.

Real Support. Real Change.

At Richard Watt Counselling, I believe that everyone deserves a space where they feel genuinely heard, understood, and valued. My mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based psychotherapy in a safe and supportive environment, empowering individuals to navigate life's challenges with confidence and resilience.

I am committed to building authentic therapeutic relationships founded on trust, respect, and empathy. By tailoring the approach to each person's unique experiences and goals, I help clients develop greater self-awareness, strengthen emotional wellbeing, and create lasting, meaningful progress.

My purpose is to support people in overcoming obstacles, embracing personal growth, and building healthier, more fulfilling lives—one conversation at a time.

Meet Rick

I’m Richard Watt, a therapist and founder of Richard Watt Counselling. I offer clear, practical, and change‑focused support for people navigating anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and major life transitions. My work blends evidence‑based approaches — including DBT, mindfulness, and contemporary psychological therapies — with a direct, grounded style that helps clients move from confusion to clarity.

Before becoming a therapist, I served in the military. That experience shaped my understanding of resilience, discipline, and the realities of psychological strain. I’ve also overcome my own mental‑health challenges, and that lived experience informs my work every day — giving me a deep, personal understanding of recovery, emotional regulation, and the courage it takes to rebuild a life from the inside out.

I’m based in Helsby and support individuals who are seeking emotional stability, deeper self‑understanding, and meaningful personal change.
